Our Studio,
Our Story

Weddle Gilmore Architects is a collaborative design studio founded by Michael Gilmore and Philip Weddle in 1999. We endeavor to create joy and meaning through artistic exploration. This is at the heart of what we do every day.

With studios in New York City and Arizona, and with projects spanning the nation and the world, we endeavor to harness the creative energy inherent in each locale where our work can be found. We’ve been fortunate that many of these projects have been created with forward-thinking communities and discerning individuals, all of which helps to feed the creative process, and ultimately our designs.

Our mission is to provide refined, tailored design that is inspired and informed by each project’s physical and cultural context. We believe that crafting seamless, boundary-blending connections between architecture, interiors, and landscape gives rise to harmonious environments and enriching experiences.

Our Principals

Michael Gilmore, AIA

Founder and Principal Architect

Michael Gilmore has designed a wide array of distinctive projects for a range of clients the world over. Known for blending elements of classic beaux-arts architecture with modern influences and innovations, each project he undertakes is an individual expression of the client’s lives, dreams, and lifestyle aspirations, while infusing them with an eye trained for balance, proportion, and exquisite detail. Behind it all is Michael’s unyielding passion for design excellence; for creating something truly special that speaks to the story of the individuals served by Weddle Gilmore.

Working in partnership with clients such as Ralph Lauren for over 25 years, Michael has developed a well-honed vision for a finessed luxury lifestyle, one that matches RL’s reputation for timelessness and impeccable tailoring. This perspective has led to a design philosophy that revolves around the creation of thoughtful and considered spaces, carefully blending architecture, interiors, and landscapes, resulting in integrated creations that consistently surprise, delight, and always endeavor to realize dreams.

Having executed projects across the country, and spanning over ten countries, Michael’s portfolio includes many private homes, luxury retail shops, as well as distinct hospitality and restaurant projects such as the renowned Polo Bar in the heart of New York City.

He is currently working with our team of designers and architects at Weddle Gilmore to bring unique projects to life in Los Angeles, Aspen, Hong Kong, Seoul, as well as several in New York City and the surrounding area.

Philip Weddle, FAIA, LEED AP

Founder and Principal Architect

The many projects Philip Weddle has completed to-date in the fields of architecture, landscape design, and urban planning demonstrate his unique approach to uncovering smart, sensitive responses to site development challenges across a range of ecological and urban contexts. Ever committed to the public good, Philip has actively sought out project opportunities that directly benefit underserved and culturally diverse communities.

Over the years Philip has developed an impressive portfolio of community-based projects that connect people to the places in which they live, work, and recreate. These links are established through design solutions that respond to, and are reflective of, the culture, climate, and landscape in which they’re found.

Whether it be in a pristine desert or a dense urban context, Philip always works toward design that is responsive to its environment while at the same time being experiential, sustainable, and ultimately even educational. Philip has shown by example that sites and buildings can be conductors through which information about the wonders of the natural environment are passed. The knowledge gleaned from these experiences ultimately benefit both the user and the world they inhabit. He also shares the view of many of our clients that built environments should be integrated into the natural world in a way that promotes ecological and environmental responsibility.
